American Reading Company’s Academic Advisory Board Member Honored

American Reading Company (ARC) congratulates its longtime Academic Advisory Board member Pedro A. Noguera, Ph.D., on his recent election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and his selection as Dean of the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education.

Noguera, who is one of the nation’s premier thought leaders on urban education and social inequality, has been a member of the ARC Academic Advisory Board for more than eight years. He serves as a partner to ARC’s community of practice in ensuring its programs continue to confront barriers to equity and access and effectively address the needs of students at every level of learning.

In his election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s oldest honor societies, Noguera joins an elite roster of leaders from across disciplines, professions, and perspectives to address significant challenges that impact the nation.

As the new dean of the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education, Noguera will be a critical voice in leading the charge of preparing outstanding teachers and educational leaders. In this role, he will work to deepen the school’s community partnerships and raise USC Rossier’s national profile as a model for schools of education.

In commenting on his new appointment, Noguera said, “I want to build on the work that’s been started, particularly with schools in Los Angeles. I’ve been really impressed by USC’s deep commitment to schools in South Los Angeles. The needs are so great there. I want to build on that work to increase our impact and make sure the professionals we train, the administrators and teachers, are ready to make a similar impact in schools like those. I believe we can make a difference in Los Angeles and throughout the country and world.”

Jane Hileman, founder and CEO of American Reading Company, congratulates Noguera for his recent appointments saying, “We’re incredibly proud of Pedro’s latest accolades and accomplishments and have known for a long time how instrumental he is in doing this work of ensuring that all children have the support needed to achieve at the highest levels of college and career readiness. As a trusted friend and advisor, we know that he will continue to make his mark and impact how the country and the world educates students of every background, every color, and every individual need.”
