ARC Core Drives Measurable Literacy Gains Across Districts Nationwide

American Reading Company is excited to share some of our most impressive results yet. These results show ARC Core student performance on 4 different state assessments and are worth celebrating. We're partnering with schools and districts committed to transforming literacy instruction and we’re seeing the progress that 3-5 years with a high-quality ELA curriculum and strong leadership can achieve over time. These multi-year data points from our partners offer a look at what’s possible when every learner has access to high-quality texts, structured literacy instruction, and meaningful reading experiences. We’re thrilled to share these findings with you, and we hope you find them insightful.

Berkeley School District 87 - Illinois

Berkeley School District is a K-8 suburban district outside of Chicago who began their ARC Core implementation during the 2021–2022 school year. By year three of their implementation, scores on the IAR have increased by double digit percentage points in all grades. Most impressively, the proficiency scores for 6th graders went from just 11% in 2021–2022 all the way up to 35% by 2024–2025.

Elk Township School District - New Jersey

Elk Township School District is a rural school district who is currently in their fourth year of implementation. The cohort data follows the proficiency of students who were in third grade when the implementation began during the 2021–2022 school year. As you can see, these students were struggling in the beginning with only a 28% proficiency rating on the NJSLA. After just three years of using ARC Core, this same group of students raised their proficiency to 84%.

Reading Public Schools - Massachusetts

Reading Public Schools is a suburban district outside of Boston that was already considered high performing. However, after just three years using ARC Core, Reading's MCAS scores are a standout in the state. Perhaps the most exciting piece of data is displayed in the last row of the chart, showing that 87% of students in Reading are progressing faster than their peers across the state.

Villa Park School District 45 - Illinois

Villa Park School District is another suburban Chicago district who began their ARC Core implementation in 2020–2021 with only 18% of third graders reading proficiently. That number rose to 42% by year 4 of the implementation. All grades 3–5 saw this remarkable improvement in proficiency, rising by over 20 percentage points each.
