American Reading Company (ARC) announced today the appointment of Stephen Peters, Ed.D, best-selling author and one of the nation’s most sought-after education experts, to its Academic Advisory Board. In July of 2016, Stephen paused his position on the board to become the superintendent of Laurens County School District 55.  

Now retired from the superintendency, Dr. Peters is currently President and CEO of the Peters Group, a consulting firm devoted to success in schools and districts. He also serves as an advisor to SitelogIQ and is the Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors for the International Literacy Association. Over his 37 years in education, Stephen has been a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, and district superintendent. Most of his experiences have been in schools that made significant growth in short periods of time, resulting in both National and State Blue Ribbon distinctions. 

Regarding his recent board appointment, Dr. Peters said, “I am honored to be rejoining the ARC’s advisory board. ARC represents so much of what educators need to create better conditions for literacy leadership and learning. During these unprecedented times, we must create a synergistic effort to support school districts and schools.
