Increase in Reading Proficiency for Title 1 and ESL Students
Somerville Middle School implemented 100 BOOK CHALLENGE during their Morning Reading Program for Title I students in Grades 6–8. The before-school hours intervention, implemented during the last 9 weeks of school, resulted in a remarkable 32% gain in students scoring proficient or advanced on their fourth-quarter benchmark assessment and in an average 255-point Lexile gain for ESL students.
