IRA and American Reading Company Present Common Core Seminar

The International Reading Association recently teamed with ARC to host noted author and educator Stephen G. Peters in a seminar for school administrators in Newark, Delaware. Peters, who partners with ARC to transform school cultures for sustainable reading achievement, was joined by Executive Coach Dr. Andrea Givens, who presented recent research in the field of literacy education. “Capture, Inspire, and Teach” is Peters’ mantra as schools implement the Common Core State Standards while establishing equity and access for every student. Dr. Givens provided a roadmap to successful implementation with an overview of the three shifts in literacy education required by the Common Core and an explanation of ARC’s proven solutions, including the Independent Reading Level Assessment Framework (IRLA) reading system, which corresponds to the Standards.
