New Windsor summer school program helps elementary schoolers learn to read
Students and parents are getting excited about the great work Weld District 4 is doing in Summer School. Weld students are participating in American Reading Company’s Summer Semester, a program that helps improve students’ reading ability. Students pick topics from a specific theme to read, write, and research independently using books matched to their reading levels. They even write their own books!
Every night, Weld students take a few books home with them to practice reading with their families. This additional practice reinforces the skills they have learned in school, builds confidence, and fosters a lifelong love of reading.
Research shows that children who read for at least one hour every day have a greater chance of success in school and beyond. We’re looking forward to helping our Weld District 4 students do great things in Summer School this year!
Though they call it the 100-step challenge, we know 100 Book Challenge is a great resource for stopping the summer slide.
