Research Confirms the ENIL is a Strong, Valid Assessment

The Evaluación del nivel independiente de lectura (ENIL) is a Spanish formative reading assessment based on an authentic Spanish literacy taxonomy. To evaluate its validity as an assessment tool, researchers looked at whether the ENIL measures the same construct as NWEA’s MAP Spanish assessment.

The results are clear! Across four studies, ENIL scores showed strong, positive correlations with NWEA’s MAP Spanish assessment that exceeded the threshold for high correlation.

ENIL parallels the English IRLA assessment in design and purpose. As the IRLA’s body of validity research grows, it also supports confidence in ENIL’s design. As more dual language and bilingual programs expand across the country, the need for research-based Spanish assessments has never been greater. ENIL provides educators with the reliable, standards-aligned data they need to drive instruction and monitor progress in Spanish literacy.
