Nationally renowned educator and author Dr. Mike Schmoker to speak at District Leadership Symposium hosted by American Reading Company
American Reading Company announced today that Dr. Mike Schmoker will address an audience of more than 200 administrators at a District Leadership Symposium on Wednesday, May 18, from 9:30 am–12:00 pm at the company’s headquarters at 201 South Gulph Road in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Schmoker is a nationally renowned educator and author known for his clear messages for education reform. His most recent book, Focus: Elevating the Essentials to Radically Improve Student Learning, has garnered widespread praise for its tactical solutions for teachers and administrators.
“We are delighted to have Dr. Schmoker as our keynote speaker this year,” said Jane Hileman, Founder and CEO of American Reading Company. “His book, Focus, is particularly relevant for our school partners who seek solutions that emphasize doing the fundamentals well, instead of adding layers of complexity which can often be counterproductive in achieving results.”
District leaders from ten states—including Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington, DC—will travel to American Reading Company’s offices to learn and participate at the Leadership Symposium. Ms. Hileman will also lead a panel discussion to re-think the literacy block to provide grade level rigor using the Common Core Standards, RtI accountability, and expert differentiated support across reading levels.
According to Dr. Schmoker, “For decades, we have put novelty and the false god of innovation above our most obvious, proven priorities. With determined focus, we can make breathtaking strides toward ensuring high quality of education for all.”
American Reading Company District Leadership Symposiums are part of an ongoing effort to align strategic efforts across schools, government, and private businesses to solve today’s education challenges. Prior keynote speakers have included Richard Allington, Quality Quinn, Gay Ivey, Alma Flor Ada, and Isabel Campoy.
